No need to hurry. No need to sparkle. No need to be anybody but oneself.

I don’t hold all the answers. Think of me more as a knowledgeable guide, walking with you, directing your attention to points of interest, pausing next to you so you can catch your breath, and alerting you to areas of potential harm. I do use a trauma-informed approach, which includes making the process of therapy as collaborative and transparent for you as possible.

The truth about stories is, that's all we are.

About My Practice

The foundation of my practice comes from narrative therapy. The basic idea of this is that what we experience evolves into our own personal stories. These stories contribute to our sense of identity, which influences how we approach new experiences. Except that along the way, our stories are also filtered through external circumstances, such as culture, upbringing, religion, and gender. Often in ways that we might not even have realized.

By listening to your stories, we can identify how you relate to them. We can then potentially uncover some limiting beliefs, as well as hidden strengths, and new insights and connections can surface. This shift in perspective can be the beginning of the change you’re looking for.

I also practice harm reduction. This means that I’ll support you to make changes incrementally at a pace that feels safe and is decided by you. Transformative change won’t happen over night.

In addition to narrative therapy and harm reduction, my work also draws from these evidence-informed approaches:

  • Anti-Oppression
  • Compassionate Inquiry
  • Humanist
  • Intersectional Feminism
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Solutions-Focused

In respect to my own professional development, learning is a life-long process. I regularly attend a variety of workshops and conferences in order to continue to hone my clinical skills. Following the best practice guidelines for psychotherapy, I also receive clinical supervision.

About Me

I come to this work with a genuine curiosity and investment in your well-being. I have lived many lives so far. Along the way, I have met people from very different walks of life. Professionally, I’ve had the opportunity to work with individuals who embody a diversity of histories, backgrounds, and experiences, including those who were houseless or precariously housed, new immigrants, First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, and people from across the gender and sexual orientation spectrum. I have been witness to stories both extraordinary and everyday. Whatever your own story is, I have space for that one, too.
